Short and simple. That is what I have learned over the past few years. Simple always trumps complex, every time. Now that we have that sorted out, on to Ferenze. Ferenze (Florence, Italy) was an amazing city. It was truly a walking city. Everywhere we wanted to go it seemed to be a 10-15 minute walk, which is a big reason why I loved it. Whenever I travel to an unknown city my first task is to get a hold of a map and start walking around to get my bearings. Ferenze took no time at all to get accustomed to. It seemed after only hours I was walking around knowing where I was and where I was going (this does not usually happen so fast).
Being with the fam this trip was another added…experience. While over all it was very nice to have my entire family there, there were a few times where the typical family vacation feeling set in and we were at each others throats. Overall, like I said it was a great time with the fam. How can you not have a great time when you are in Italy?
Quickly, before I bore you with more family talk onto the good stuff Ferenze has to offer. The Duomo, The David, numerous squares filled with ancient art, amazing food, and an amazing atmosphere. The typical tourist attractions are a must! The Dumo and David are cheep and very, very cool. Do not pass them up! After those and a few other arts just walk around and enjoy the city. Like I said before it is a walking city, so walk! Italians are experts in the ways or relaxing on the stairs or on a corner café, so take a page out of their book and kick your feet back and enjoy Ferenze.
The one down side to Ferenze was all the Americans. Honestly, there were a few times that I was worried I ended up in a Chicago restaurant with the amount of Americans around. Visiting my sister this trip who is studying abroad, we naturally went to the American places. The typical Irish Pubs, and places where the Beatles cover bands are sure hits for Americans, or English speakers. All and all Ferenze was a great time, and great place to visit. I highly recommend it for a long weekend in Italy, or just a new place to try. Bring your walking shoes, and if you are looking for the best bakery in town look no further than the secrete bakery. I can’t say much about it, but I can say that my secrete bakery experience was the best in Ferenze. Now I have said too much! Ciao!
